Parenting 110:
Dispelling any preconceived notions about change as being something to fear begins at home. Change is just a natural progression of life and something to be celebrated as growth and development into the phases of our best selves. When we rally around this concept, then so too will our children. When we celebrate the changes our children will thrive and succeed and accomplish heights far greater than we could imagine because they will be driven to pursue what is unknown through learning and discovering more about what they can accomplish with their lives.
When we show our children the celebration of each phase of academic change by showing them how to “go see” and to prepare for the next level of change in advance, then our children will carry this on throughout their lifetimes.
Fearlessness and capabilities are empowered when what seemed difficult, distant and unobtainable are faced head on … visit Elementary Schools, Middle Schools, Senior High Schools, Colleges & Universities with YOUR Children well before they are prepared to enter them. Let’s show our children that these levels of change are exciting, necessary and beneficial to making their career and life dreams possible.
Which local area college and university campuses have you taken your Children to visit? Which campuses have they gone to visit for a tour? Which dormitory rooms have they seen? Which dormitory cafeterias have they dined in? Which university classrooms have they sat in?
Let’s prepare our children for the top-tier/ top-rung academic pursuits. There are definitely six types of trips and excursions that our children should experience on a college and/or university campus throughout their lifetime: seeing their parent(s) and/or grandparents attending and graduating from a college and/or university; secondly, visiting the college and/or university campus as just fun days seeing the best that the campuses have to offer; thirdly, taking a tour and/or overnight visit on a university campus while staying the night in a dormitory and all that resembles the experiences of a first time student prior to acceptance to a university; fourthly, once the child has started attending a college and/or university themselves personally and preparing for their graduation date; fifthly, witnessing their friends and family members attending colleges and/or universities and excited about the experience; and sixthly, the beginning of their potential nieces, nephews and grandchildren’s admission to a university as well.
